25 Years

My Uncle celebrates his twenty fifth year as a priest this week. He is an extraordinary person and I am very proud. Many blessings for the Father and Curate of St Mary's Hay. I will always be grateful for the illumination that was brought into my life through his words and my travels with him.

The Fast Of The Apostles

The first serious fast that I have undertaken in my life is drawing to a close. The end will be marked by the feast of St Peter and St Paul. I had planned on marking the end of the fast by gorging myself on fast food or at least scrambled eggs on heavily buttered toast (a personal favorite recently re discovered) alas it will not be so. After The Divine Liturgy ends I have only an hour to get to practice and make ready. Practice will hopefully end at around six o'clock which will afford me some time to get to St Paul's Irvine . There I will attend the Ecumenical service for the opening of the Year of St Paul. This leaves me little time indeed to stuff myself which is a good thing I suppose. This fast has taught me two things, firstly I have learned that prayer sustains us more than I have ever thought, secondly to pray is a hard thing to do even when one wants to. I think that the second realization has helped me know myself better and made me aware of the discipline I need to encourage within myself in order to be a better person.
